Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 5.56% or 332.00 points to trade at 6,300.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 5.41% or 13.25 points to end at 258.15 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 5.24% or 448.00 points to 9,002.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 8.67% or 127.50 points to trade at 1,343.50 in late trade. Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) declined 4.72% or 224.00 points to end at 4,518.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 4.09% or 5.95 points to 139.65.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 933 to 910 and 617 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.66% or 73.20 to $2,676.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.14% or 0.10 to hit $72.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.11 to trade at $75.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.11% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP fell 0.64% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.60% at 104.97.
