Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, General Industrial and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY), which rose 6.03% or 1.58 points to trade at 27.87 at the close. NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG) added 4.76% or 5.05 points to end at 111.05 and JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq) was up 4.65% or 0.046 points to 1.036 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 2.98% or 24.6 points to trade at 802.0 in late trade. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) declined 2.91% or 9.95 points to end at 332.25 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 0.66% or 8.00 points to 1198.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1290 to 871 and 138 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 0.07% or 1.35 to $1975.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.89% or 0.76 to hit $41.03 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.63% or 0.71 to trade at $44.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.3064, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8996.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 93.578.
