Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the General Retailers, Industrial Transportation and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 5.50% or 13.20 points to trade at 253.10 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 5.33% or 10.80 points to end at 213.40 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 5.07% or 38.40 points to 795.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which lost 0.55% or 0.70 points to trade at 126.65 in late trade. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 0.03% or 0.50 points to end at 1,952.00 and NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) 0.00% or 0.00 points to 0.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1381 to 442 and 472 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.74% or 12.80 to $1,741.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.44% or 1.25 to hit $88.04 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.45% or 1.35 to trade at $94.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.01% to 1.17, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.01% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.78% at 107.89.
