Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.73% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 3.18% or 49.50 points to trade at 1605.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.76% or 85.5 points to end at 3182.0 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 2.07% or 46.00 points to 2267.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which lost 3.25% or 42.00 points to trade at 1249.50 in late trade. Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq) declined 2.99% or 0.48 points to end at 15.58 and NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) shed 2.90% or 0.23 points to 7.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 966 to 917 and 519 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.54% or 9.85 to $1824.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.82% or 1.40 to hit $78.39 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.61% or 1.29 to trade at $81.29 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.3590, while EUR/GBP rose 0.05% to 0.8343.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 95.938.
