Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Beverage and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 8.70% or 43.80 points to trade at 547.40 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) added 7.14% or 8.40 points to end at 126.05 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 5.64% or 144.0 points to 2695.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq), which lost 4.95% or 0.24 points to trade at 4.69 in late trade. Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq) declined 4.59% or 0.56 points to end at 11.75 and JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq) shed 4.35% or 0.041 points to 0.890.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1266 to 904 and 178 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.82% or 35.95 to $1942.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.39% or 1.02 to hit $41.74 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.97% or 0.90 to trade at $44.68 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.39% to 1.3329, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.8886.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 92.725.
