Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB), which rose 4.34% or 94.00 points to trade at 2262.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 4.27% or 122.5 points to end at 2991.0 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 4.09% or 240.0 points to 6106.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 1.36% or 7.00 points to trade at 507.20 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 1.33% or 4.80 points to end at 357.00 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) shed 0.66% or 3.60 points to 545.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1401 to 755 and 247 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.55% or 9.85 to $1810.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.02% or 1.47 to hit $74.41 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.79% or 1.33 to trade at $75.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.3846, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.8568.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 92.243.
