Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Automobiles & Parts and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 5.68% or 135.00 points to trade at 2510.00 at the close. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) added 4.08% or 4.60 points to end at 117.35 and Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) was up 3.52% or 12.70 points to 373.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 13.27% or 39.90 points to trade at 260.80 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 6.26% or 112.50 points to end at 1684.50 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 2.09% or 25.00 points to 1169.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1288 to 811 and 295 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.37% or 4.85 to $1307.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.67% or 1.39 to hit $53.38 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.42% or 1.45 to trade at $61.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.3152, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8688.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 95.477.
