Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Food & Drug Retailers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 6.09% or 119.50 points to trade at 2081.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.74% or 40.80 points to end at 900.80 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 3.74% or 8.50 points to 235.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 2.48% or 48.40 points to trade at 1903.00 in late trade. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 1.53% or 1.34 points to end at 86.02 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 1.52% or 71.00 points to 4599.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1385 to 796 and 223 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.59% or 7.90 to $1350.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 3.30% or 1.72 to hit $53.89 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.76% or 1.07 to trade at $62.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.2550, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8924.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.137.
