Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electrical, Software & Computer Services and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which rose 4.03% or 19.20 points to trade at 496.20 at the close. Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG) added 3.18% or 74.00 points to end at 2404.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 3.01% or 9.80 points to 335.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which lost 3.94% or 7.05 points to trade at 171.85 in late trade. Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) declined 1.87% or 5.30 points to end at 277.90 and NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) shed 1.46% or 37.00 points to 2501.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1395 to 709 and 204 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.65 to $1513.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.13% or 0.07 to hit $52.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.42% or 0.24 to trade at $57.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.00% to 1.2329, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8910.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 98.482.
