Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Beverage, Mobile Telecommunications and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which rose 20.29% or 113.50 points to trade at 673.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 18.90% or 117.2 points to end at 737.2 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 18.80% or 53.50 points to 338.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which lost 9.05% or 19.40 points to trade at 195.00 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 9.00% or 11.60 points to end at 117.30 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) shed 8.44% or 220.0 points to 2385.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1187 to 1014 and 135 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.40% or 5.85 to $1472.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 23.91% or 4.98 to hit $25.81 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 15.11% or 3.76 to trade at $28.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.54% to 1.1550, while EUR/GBP fell 1.64% to 0.9242.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.85% at 103.420.
