Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Beverage and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG), which rose 6.25% or 288.0 points to trade at 4895.0 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 6.00% or 171.0 points to end at 3021.0 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 5.89% or 69.0 points to 1240.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 6.13% or 65.94 points to trade at 1010.06 in late trade. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 4.53% or 12.10 points to end at 255.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 2.85% or 71.0 points to 2420.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1580 to 761 and 63 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.32% or 24.65 to $1839.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.56% or 1.37 to hit $54.92 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.47% or 1.39 to trade at $57.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.3645, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8817.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 91.148.
