Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Media and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 2.89% or 50.00 points to trade at 1778.50 at the close. DCC plc (LON:DCC) added 2.47% or 166.0 points to end at 6886.0 and Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) was up 2.11% or 37.80 points to 1828.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which lost 6.48% or 31.20 points to trade at 450.00 in late trade. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) declined 3.64% or 8.80 points to end at 233.00 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 2.52% or 28.00 points to 1083.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1125 to 945 and 317 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.16% or 2.05 to $1298.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.37% or 0.23 to hit $62.01 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.60 to trade at $71.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.2859, while EUR/GBP rose 0.36% to 0.8716.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.345.
