Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Food & Drug Retailers and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 8.74% or 9.88 points to trade at 122.88 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 7.39% or 141.50 points to end at 2056.00 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) was up 4.08% or 66.00 points to 1682.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND), which lost 12.74% or 80.60 points to trade at 551.80 in late trade. British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) declined 10.33% or 39.60 points to end at 343.90 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 5.74% or 163.0 points to 2675.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1169 to 1015 and 128 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.57% or 9.70 to $1707.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 7.79% or 1.88 to hit $26.02 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.06% or 0.61 to trade at $30.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.2283, while EUR/GBP rose 0.92% to 0.8837.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 99.950.
