Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Media and Beverage sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 10.61% or 14.00 points to trade at 146.00 at the close. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 5.89% or 51.60 points to end at 927.00 and Relx PLC (LON:REL) was up 3.59% or 67.00 points to 1934.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 4.07% or 89.00 points to trade at 2098.00 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 3.96% or 42.50 points to end at 1030.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 2.25% or 21.60 points to 938.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1118 to 993 and 199 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.31% or 4.45 to $1419.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $56.01 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.07 to trade at $63.32 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.55% to 1.2385, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.8982.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 97.773.
