Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Household Goods & Home Construction and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.80% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which rose 3.39% or 192.00 points to trade at 5854.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) added 3.29% or 203.00 points to end at 6365.00 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) was up 2.81% or 23.60 points to 862.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA), which lost 3.97% or 202.00 points to trade at 4888.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 2.78% or 26.40 points to end at 922.80 and Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) shed 2.46% or 13.60 points to 539.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1132 to 1072 and 197 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.29% or 17.95 to $1407.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.27% or 1.93 to hit $57.16 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.77% or 1.80 to trade at $63.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.25% to 1.2606, while EUR/GBP rose 0.36% to 0.8960.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 96.273.
