Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Travel & Leisure, Banking and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 6.56% or 87.4 points to trade at 1419.0 at the close. BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) added 4.17% or 101.00 points to end at 2521.00 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 4.02% or 425.0 points to 11005.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which lost 4.01% or 50.00 points to trade at 1197.00 in late trade. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) declined 2.34% or 13.00 points to end at 542.20 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) shed 2.22% or 290.0 points to 12755.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 966 to 936 and 482 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.73% or 13.15 to $1820.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.42% or 1.31 to hit $91.00 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.76% or 0.71 to trade at $92.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.3519, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.8446.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 95.555.
