Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB), which rose 3.19% or 68.00 points to trade at 2201.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.12% or 90.5 points to end at 2991.0 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.63% or 8.15 points to 318.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.68% or 77.4 points to trade at 1575.4 in late trade. Informa PLC (LON:INF) declined 4.33% or 23.20 points to end at 512.40 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 3.21% or 30.00 points to 905.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1158 to 1045 and 225 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.60% or 10.75 to $1804.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.85% or 1.36 to hit $72.01 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.61% or 1.20 to trade at $73.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.3793, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.8555.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 92.703.
