Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which rose 7.88% or 135.00 points to trade at 1,847.50 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 5.91% or 4.72 points to end at 84.54 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 5.27% or 50.90 points to 1,016.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 2.93% or 8.40 points to trade at 278.30 in late trade. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 2.40% or 43.50 points to end at 1,772.50 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) shed 2.12% or 136.00 points to 6,290.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1229 to 574 and 443 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.28% or 5.01 to $1,819.01 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.68% or 0.76 to hit $111.06 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.64 to trade at $113.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.32% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.17% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.80% at 103.36.
