Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Electrical and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 6.20% or 8.70 points to trade at 149.10 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) added 5.62% or 6.55 points to end at 123.00 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 5.35% or 17.10 points to 336.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which lost 2.17% or 4.90 points to trade at 220.90 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 1.80% or 2.80 points to end at 152.80 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 1.75% or 28.00 points to 1571.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1384 to 741 and 280 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.29% or 3.70 to $1289.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 4.74% or 2.36 to hit $52.14 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 4.16% or 2.44 to trade at $61.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.2765, while EUR/GBP rose 0.42% to 0.9030.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 94.922.
