Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Transportation and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which rose 4.03% or 56.50 points to trade at 1,460.00 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 3.31% or 3.85 points to end at 120.15 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was up 2.96% or 11.00 points to 382.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV), which lost 1.97% or 19.00 points to trade at 944.50 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 0.56% or 9.00 points to end at 1,599.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 0.47% or 0.75 points to 159.85.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1118 to 655 and 683 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.06% or 1.70 to $2,633.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.34% or 0.25 to hit $73.32 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.60% or 0.46 to trade at $76.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 102.60.
