Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.56% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which rose 3.55% or 13.70 points to trade at 400.20 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 3.29% or 18.00 points to end at 564.80 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 3.21% or 18.40 points to 591.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 2.61% or 4.20 points to trade at 156.70 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 1.80% or 54.00 points to end at 2,946.00 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) shed 1.78% or 5.60 points to 309.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1038 to 740 and 645 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.40% or 10.64 to $2,669.14 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.98% or 2.03 to hit $70.13 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.69% or 1.93 to trade at $73.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 106.24.
