Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.89% or 195.00 points to trade at 3,506.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 5.18% or 76.00 points to end at 1,544.50 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 4.07% or 222.00 points to 5,675.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV), which lost 15.91% or 364.00 points to trade at 1,924.00 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 4.77% or 104.00 points to end at 2,076.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 3.46% or 17.60 points to 490.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1100 to 778 and 464 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.86% or 16.35 to $1,887.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.01% or 1.03 to hit $100.67 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.88 to trade at $103.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.53% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.55% at 102.88.
