Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the General Industrial, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which rose 4.60% or 224.00 points to trade at 5092.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.96% or 67.00 points to end at 1760.20 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 3.43% or 7.00 points to 211.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 5.50% or 111.50 points to trade at 1917.50 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 3.24% or 8.20 points to end at 244.70 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) shed 2.83% or 27.40 points to 939.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1199 to 714 and 158 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.28% or 16.90 to $1336.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.43% or 0.27 to hit $62.30 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $65.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.18% to 1.3874, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.8940.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 89.60.
