Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Beverage and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.39% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Diageo PLC (LON:DGE), which rose 4.67% or 129.50 points to trade at 2901.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.47% or 37.20 points to end at 869.80 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa) was up 3.78% or 86.00 points to 2362.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA), which lost 5.06% or 13.40 points to trade at 251.65 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 4.24% or 6.10 points to end at 137.95 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 3.39% or 40.50 points to 1154.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1042 to 1033 and 308 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.76% or 10.05 to $1325.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.59% or 0.86 to hit $55.09 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.45 to trade at $61.99 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.3131, while EUR/GBP fell 0.38% to 0.8717.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 95.275.
