Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Industrial Engineering and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 7.19% or 12.36 points to trade at 184.24 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 3.75% or 55.50 points to end at 1536.50 and NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) was up 3.08% or 0.23 points to 7.57 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB), which lost 5.56% or 124.00 points to trade at 2107.00 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 4.50% or 33.40 points to end at 709.40 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 3.85% or 6.50 points to 162.15.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1015 to 933 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.26% or 4.75 to $1811.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.46% or 1.69 to hit $70.28 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.26% or 1.62 to trade at $73.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.44% to 1.3828, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.8578.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 92.312.
