Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Food Producers and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV), which rose 4.04% or 22.60 points to trade at 582.40 at the close. Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SWR) added 3.92% or 138.00 points to end at 3,660.00 and Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) was up 2.81% or 245.00 points to 8,950.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 3.38% or 37.00 points to trade at 1,057.00 in late trade. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) declined 2.19% or 10.40 points to end at 464.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 2.19% or 3.90 points to 174.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1136 to 658 and 693 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.14% or 3.35 to $2,418.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.16% or 0.13 to hit $82.49 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.23% or 0.20 to trade at $85.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.60% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.23% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.79.
