Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Insurance and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 5.64% or 16.35 points to trade at 306.10 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.82% or 93.0 points to end at 3393.0 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) was up 2.66% or 46.00 points to 1773.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN), which lost 10.02% or 157.50 points to trade at 1414.50 in late trade. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) declined 3.77% or 470.0 points to end at 11990.0 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 2.79% or 40.2 points to 1399.6.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1127 to 1112 and 186 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.51% or 9.25 to $1812.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.69% or 0.49 to hit $70.77 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.25 to trade at $72.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.3912, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.8530.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 92.073.
