Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Industrial Engineering and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Halma PLC (LON:HLMA), which rose 8.45% or 160.50 points to trade at 2059.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 5.33% or 68.00 points to end at 1344.50 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) was up 3.69% or 196.00 points to 5502.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which lost 2.12% or 146.00 points to trade at 6740.00 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 1.53% or 20.50 points to end at 1316.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 1.51% or 38.00 points to 2474.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1152 to 1013 and 195 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 2.65 to $1474.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.91% or 1.66 to hit $55.48 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.34% or 1.46 to trade at $60.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.22% to 1.2924, while EUR/GBP rose 0.35% to 0.8573.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.705.
