Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Software & Computer Services, Beverage and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which rose 7.88% or 341.0 points to trade at 4671.0 at the close. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) added 6.59% or 46.60 points to end at 753.60 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) was up 5.42% or 5.60 points to 108.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SSE PLC (LON:SSE), which lost 6.30% or 90.00 points to trade at 1337.50 in late trade. Informa PLC (LON:INF) declined 5.27% or 22.60 points to end at 406.30 and Relx PLC (LON:REL) shed 3.65% or 64.50 points to 1700.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1108 to 1027 and 153 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.41% or 26.30 to $1891.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.33% or 0.14 to hit $41.76 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.30 to trade at $43.99 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.2750, while EUR/GBP rose 0.36% to 0.9115.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 94.562.
