Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Software & Computer Services, Chemicals and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.78% or 3.85 points to trade at 105.60 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) added 3.00% or 71.0 points to end at 2441.0 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 2.95% or 360.0 points to 12580.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 2.14% or 0.96 points to trade at 43.81 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 2.08% or 1.26 points to end at 59.38 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) shed 2.07% or 5.90 points to 279.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1168 to 976 and 169 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.78% or 34.25 to $1957.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.09% or 0.04 to hit $43.39 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.09 to trade at $46.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.51% to 1.3217, while EUR/GBP fell 0.45% to 0.8955.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 92.852.
