Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the General Industrial, Industrial Metals & Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which rose 5.88% or 312.00 points to trade at 5622.00 at the close. WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) added 2.15% or 4.20 points to end at 199.45 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.02% or 34.50 points to 1738.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 4.49% or 92.00 points to trade at 1955.00 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 4.38% or 43.90 points to end at 957.60 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) shed 4.38% or 47.00 points to 1027.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1110 to 1094 and 208 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.52% or 6.95 to $1343.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.05% or 1.05 to hit $52.19 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.92% or 1.15 to trade at $61.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.2680, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8892.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 97.032.
