Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were ITV Plc (LONDON:ITV), which rose 3.64% or 8.10 points to trade at 230.60 at the close. ARM Holdings (LONDON:ARM) added 3.09% or 32.00 points to end at 1069.00 and easyJet Plc (LONDON:EZJ) was up 2.71% or 47.00 points to 1778.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown Plc (LONDON:HRGV), which lost 7.56% or 79.00 points to trade at 966.00 in late trade. Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) declined 5.15% or 21.50 points to end at 395.90 and Morrison(Wm.)Supermarkets (LONDON:MRW) shed 2.42% or 4.50 points to 181.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1102 to 957 and 353 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.28% or 3.50 to $1263.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March fell 5.33% or 2.83 to hit $50.22 a barrel, while the March Brent Oil contract fell 3.45% or 2.00 to trade at $55.91 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.28% to 1.5210, while EUR/GBP fell 0.91% to 0.7501.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 94.24.
