Investing.com – Spain equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Telecoms & IT and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 rose 0.63% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Telefonica (BME:TEF), which rose 2.51% or 0.11 points to trade at 4.53 at the close. Acciona (BME:ANA) added 2.16% or 2.60 points to end at 123.20 and ACS Actividades de Construccion y Servicios SA (BME:ACS) was up 2.13% or 0.92 points to 44.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mapfre (BME:MAP), which lost 1.74% or 0.04 points to trade at 2.49 in late trade. Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BME:BBVA) declined 1.63% or 0.15 points to end at 9.29 and SOLARIA ENERGIA Y MEDIO AMBIENTE (BME:SLRS) shed 1.55% or 0.17 points to 10.83.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 104 to 80 and 29 ended unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 6.30 to $2,685.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.20% or 0.14 to hit $70.44 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $74.22 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.09, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.40% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 103.28.
