Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX gained 0.87% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS), which rose 4.38% or 3.880 points to trade at 92.490 at the close. FSK EES (MCX:FEES) added 4.22% or 0.0081 points to end at 0.2002 and AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) was up 3.89% or 6650 points to 177800 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NLMK ao (MCX:NLMK), which lost 4.11% or 5.06 points to trade at 117.94 in late trade. Polyus Zoloto OAO (MCX:PLZL) declined 4.05% or 180.0 points to end at 4260.0 and MMK (MCX:MAGN) shed 2.70% or 0.955 points to 34.445.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 147 to 84 and 25 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 0.47% to 23.530.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.21% or 14.45 to $1176.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 8.56% or 3.87 to hit $49.10 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 8.98% or 4.25 to trade at $51.57 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 1.25% to 64.2826, while EUR/RUB fell 1.76% to 68.105.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.59% at 101.58.
