Proactive Investors - International Distributions Services PLC’s Royal Mail (LON:IDSI) had partnered with Nespresso as part of a plan to boost recycling of used coffee pods in the UK.
Announced on Monday, the partnership will see Royal Mail postal workers collect used Nespresso (LON:0QR4) coffee pods from households as they do delivery rounds.
This is in a bid to encourage recycling of the pods, which contain aluminium that can be used in the likes of cars and beverage cans, according to Nespresso.
“Recycling needs to be convenient, simple, and sustainable - and our partnership with Royal Mail is central to achieving that vision,” Nespresso chief executive Anna Lundstrom said.
Royal Mail said the move came as it looks to “reinvent the way” deliveries and collections take place.
Despite struggling over the past year, partially on the back of a heated industrial dispute with workers, Royal Mail has announced a host of schemes aimed at rejigging its service as the once-publicly owned firm looks to modernise.
This includes the introduction of a drone-operated route over the Orkney Islands, alongside updates to its app to allow customers to nominate areas for parcels to be safely left.
