Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Automobiles & Parts and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 1.25% or 3.600 points to trade at 292.400 at the close. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) added 1.16% or 21.00 points to end at 1827.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 0.86% or 1.6000 points to 186.6000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND), which lost 3.07% or 34.00 points to trade at 1074.00 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) declined 2.98% or 96.00 points to end at 3131.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 2.97% or 4.9500 points to 161.8000.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1238 to 773 and 475 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.07% or 13.40 to $1236.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.78% or 0.77 to hit $43.95 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.82% or 0.81 to trade at $45.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.4385, while EUR/GBP fell 0.98% to 0.7804.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 95.09.
