Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Pharmaceutical Industry and Rubber sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 2.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nichirei Corp. (TYO:2871), which rose 6.34% or 224.00 points to trade at 3,755.00 at the close. Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) added 3.33% or 90.50 points to end at 2,806.00 and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (TYO:2502) was up 3.27% or 186.00 points to 5,880.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035), which lost 8.75% or 2,920.00 points to trade at 30,470.00 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) declined 8.41% or 1,245.00 points to end at 13,560.00 and Hoya Cor (TYO:7741) shed 7.49% or 1,560.00 points to 19,265.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2389 to 1250 and 232 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.50% to 17.91.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.81% or 0.66 to $82.10 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.68% or 0.58 to hit $85.66 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.53% or 12.95 to trade at $2,472.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 156.25, while EUR/JPY fell 0.05% to 170.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.50.
