Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Gas & Water, Services and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mercari Inc (TYO:4385), which rose 4.43% or 106.00 points to trade at 2,497.50 at the close. Sharp Corp (TYO:6753) added 4.05% or 35.80 points to end at 920.80 and NTT Data Corp. (TYO:9613) was up 3.31% or 79.00 points to 2,465.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Resona Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8308), which lost 6.38% or 66.20 points to trade at 971.30 in late trade. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) declined 5.63% or 359.00 points to end at 6,016.00 and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) shed 5.24% or 1,240.00 points to 22,440.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1879 to 1770 and 217 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.82% to 28.82.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.65% or 0.45 to $69.47 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.49% or 0.36 to hit $73.11 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.13% or 3.45 to trade at $2,612.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 140.56, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 156.45.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 100.35.
