Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Precision Instruments, Electrical/Machinery and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (TYO:6701), which rose 3.60% or 480.00 points to trade at 13,825.00 at the close. Hoya Cor (TYO:7741) added 3.45% or 665.00 points to end at 19,930.00 and Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723) was up 3.45% or 104.00 points to 3,116.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Astellas Pharma Inc. (TYO:4503), which lost 3.24% or 55.00 points to trade at 1,642.00 in late trade. Japan Post Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:6178) declined 3.14% or 52.00 points to end at 1,602.50 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713) shed 3.13% or 159.00 points to 4,920.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2435 to 1171 and 262 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.50% to 18.00.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.71% or 0.58 to $80.72 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.51% or 0.43 to hit $84.68 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 1.45% or 35.55 to trade at $2,420.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.27% to 157.79, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 171.80.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 104.04.
