Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.21% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML), which rose 3.20% or 12.15 points to trade at 392.25 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) added 2.42% or 34.20 points to end at 1449.70 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 2.11% or 563.80 points to 27224.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which lost 2.69% or 38.65 points to trade at 1398.50 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 2.20% or 25.00 points to end at 1109.15 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 1.47% or 7.25 points to 484.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 1.85% to 519.90, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.49% to settle at 377.35 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.17% to close at 259.00.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.60% to 1398.50 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 2.12% to settle at 1110.00 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.38% to 1628.60 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 791 to 755 and 4 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1296 fell and 1242 advanced, while 170 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.14% to 11.9900.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.57% or 7.13 to $1254.03 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.43% or 0.19 to hit $44.05 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.09 to trade at $46.83 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 64.593, while EUR/INR rose 0.41% to 73.4029.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 95.97.
