Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 2.78% or 30.40 points to trade at 1123.45 at the close. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 0.91% or 8.90 points to end at 991.95 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 0.85% or 60.95 points to 7268.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 2.70% or 5.45 points to trade at 196.55 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.54% or 4.30 points to end at 164.80 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) shed 2.16% or 10.10 points to 457.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 2.52% to 1123.70, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 0.80% to settle at 528.00 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 0.73% to close at 255.90.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 2.11% to 457.30 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 2.10% to settle at 165.15 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.97% to 368.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 795 to 763 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1321 fell and 1239 advanced, while 167 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.42% to 10.9150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.39% or 4.91 to $1248.41 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.28% or 0.12 to hit $43.39 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.39% or 0.18 to trade at $45.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 64.535, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 71.9480.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 97.34.
