Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Oil & Gas and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.29% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 2.35% or 66.30 points to trade at 2,883.95 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 2.17% or 34.75 points to end at 1,638.40 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 1.61% or 25.05 points to 1,584.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which lost 4.27% or 214.45 points to trade at 4,806.05 in late trade. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 4.01% or 108.30 points to end at 2,590.60 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) shed 3.55% or 350.40 points to 9,525.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 2.00% to 2,873.25, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 1.94% to settle at 1,635.00 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 1.08% to close at 829.90.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 3.00% to 1,298.90 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 2.68% to settle at 1,808.95 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.53% to 1,710.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1979 to 558 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2568 fell and 1306 advanced, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.01% to 16.70 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 1.60 to $2,750.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.63% or 1.83 to hit $71.32 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.48% or 1.81 to trade at $74.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 84.11, while EUR/INR rose 0.27% to 91.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 103.65.
