Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 0.34% or 1.30 points to trade at 385.95 at the close. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 0.57% or 5.70 points to end at 1005.15 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) was up 0.63% or 1.65 points to 263.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which lost 3.80% or 45.85 points to trade at 1144.75 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 4.03% or 19.70 points to end at 472.90 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) shed 2.96% or 8.75 points to 286.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 0.14% to 181.15, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 0.06% to settle at 8607.55 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 0.09% to close at 1409.25.
The worst performers were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 3.52% to 452.20 in late trade, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which lost 3.00% to settle at 386.90 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 2.99% to 3212.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1027 to 542 and 32 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1619 fell and 1012 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.19% to 14.7950 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 3.74 to $1276.94 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.71% or 0.41 to hit $57.81 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.56 to trade at $63.19 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.11% to 64.525, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 76.7408.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 92.97.
