Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.81%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 1.60% or 11.15 points to trade at 707.40 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 1.58% or 16.20 points to end at 1,041.50 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 1.22% or 20.55 points to 1,706.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM), which lost 4.12% or 229.55 points to trade at 5,337.95 in late trade. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 3.63% or 95.65 points to end at 2,541.40 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) shed 3.37% or 104.55 points to 2,996.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 1.72% to 1,042.90, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 0.94% to settle at 1,640.20 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.69% to close at 1,451.65.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.56% to 2,990.30 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 2.91% to settle at 1,739.90 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was down 2.56% to 884.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1419 to 1013 and 26 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1962 fell and 1782 advanced, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.97% to 16.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.27% or 6.55 to $2,438.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.23% or 0.17 to hit $75.06 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.29 to trade at $78.04 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.96, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 91.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 102.93.
