Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.50%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 2.70% or 13.30 points to trade at 505.85 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 1.39% or 4.25 points to end at 310.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 0.95% or 1.60 points to 170.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which lost 7.88% or 53.15 points to trade at 621.05 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 3.18% or 9.00 points to end at 273.25 and Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) shed 3.44% or 4.80 points to 134.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.60% to 505.60, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 0.86% to settle at 170.45 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which gained 0.50% to close at 170.10.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 3.34% to 134.65 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.79% to settle at 6848.50 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 1.71% to 83.15 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 992 to 591 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1431 fell and 989 advanced, while 152 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.54% to 14.1225 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.57% or 7.55 to $1338.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.59% or 1.38 to hit $51.89 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.33% or 1.45 to trade at $60.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.06% to 69.350, while EUR/INR fell 0.11% to 78.5115.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 96.705.
