Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Real Estate and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.45% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 4.34% or 436.55 points to trade at 10,500.50 at the close. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) added 2.79% or 46.85 points to end at 1,728.70 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 1.91% or 57.05 points to 3,049.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which lost 6.97% or 76.20 points to trade at 1,017.05 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 4.37% or 81.85 points to end at 1,789.20 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) shed 3.38% or 61.50 points to 1,758.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 2.61% to 1,724.95, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 1.58% to settle at 3,037.80 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 0.91% to close at 2,990.80.
The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was down 4.66% to 1,782.75 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which lost 3.05% to settle at 1,764.30 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.97% to 1,306.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2023 to 487 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2753 fell and 1092 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.42% to 13.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.51% or 14.00 to $2,744.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.91% or 1.31 to hit $70.00 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.59% or 1.16 to trade at $74.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 84.08, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 91.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 103.50.
