Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Power and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.25% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 1.63% or 3.45 points to trade at 215.30 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 1.58% or 13.15 points to end at 846.50 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 1.57% or 6.75 points to 436.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which lost 3.22% or 90.00 points to trade at 2,705.95 in late trade. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 1.62% or 35.60 points to end at 2,159.15 and Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) shed 1.62% or 47.35 points to 2,873.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 1.44% to 845.15, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 0.98% to settle at 387.60 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 0.86% to close at 520.80.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 3.20% to 2,706.35 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 1.40% to settle at 2,159.80 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.30% to 1,078.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1033 to 858 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1783 fell and 1537 advanced, while 145 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.29% to 15.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.44% or 8.15 to $1,833.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.68% or 0.50 to hit $74.45 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.48 to trade at $81.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 82.70, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 87.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 104.55.
