Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Real Estate and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 3.61% or 10.25 points to trade at 294.80 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 2.43% or 3.50 points to end at 147.75 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was up 1.45% or 41.65 points to 2908.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 3.79% or 1.95 points to trade at 49.65 in late trade. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) declined 2.41% or 358.25 points to end at 14532.50 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) shed 1.57% or 3.15 points to 197.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 2.46% to 147.75, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 1.42% to settle at 7361.90 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 1.37% to close at 2423.00.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 3.31% to 49.65 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 1.78% to settle at 1571.00 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.63% to 332.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 884 to 691 and 70 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1327 fell and 1060 advanced, while 189 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.98% to 11.9575 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.52% or 7.65 to $1488.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.12% or 0.07 to hit $60.37 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.08% or 0.05 to trade at $66.19 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 71.157, while EUR/INR rose 0.27% to 78.9240.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 97.225.
