Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.20%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which rose 8.60% or 40.30 points to trade at 508.75 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 6.56% or 21.45 points to end at 348.30 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 6.31% or 51.20 points to 863.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which lost 1.34% or 32.50 points to trade at 2399.00 in late trade. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) declined 0.67% or 114.20 points to end at 17051.00 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) shed 0.55% or 3.80 points to 692.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 4.12% to 993.35, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 2.88% to settle at 1804.45 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which gained 2.39% to close at 6898.45.
The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.29% to 2399.45 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 0.47% to settle at 1486.50 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.40% to 17102.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1384 to 284 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2062 rose and 719 declined, while 144 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.18% to 19.9875 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1715.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.77% or 1.05 to hit $60.21 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.56% or 0.98 to trade at $63.72 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.41% to 73.436, while EUR/INR rose 0.54% to 86.2400.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 93.200.
