Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.11% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 5.12% or 193.80 points to trade at 3978.80 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) added 4.44% or 11.60 points to end at 272.95 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 4.41% or 39.80 points to 942.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 3.90% or 19.65 points to trade at 483.95 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 2.15% or 14.80 points to end at 674.30 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 1.72% or 2.70 points to 154.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 4.13% to 3438.00, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 4.11% to settle at 649.10 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 4.07% to close at 6619.50.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.86% to 483.85 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.19% to settle at 87.25 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.86% to 5867.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 949 to 663 and 87 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1399 rose and 1108 declined, while 165 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.30% to 24.7125.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.11% or 1.95 to $1811.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.93% or 0.38 to hit $40.37 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.88% or 0.38 to trade at $42.76 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.12% to 74.796, while EUR/INR rose 0.20% to 85.7080.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 95.763.
